In the near future, the ravages of a warming planet have worsened, driving a new era of climate refugees. Rohini Haakonsen, a young Indian-American woman, attends a UN conference on the problem when humanoid aliens materialize. Known as the Elders, the aliens present themselves as benign, even offering to help us solve our climate crisis. Can they be trusted? Rohini is chosen to join a group of ambassadors to the aliens' world, but when masked gunmen attempt to kidnap her, it becomes clear not everyone on Earth is willing to go along with the aliens' plans. Eventually, along with Agent Jane Smith, Rohini is forced to flee, accepting the help of a Daoist secret society. Rohini's search for the truth takes her around the globe and into the deepest recesses of her own mind. Before she can make it to the Elders' world, she must survive her own.

Reviews for Voice Of The Elders

"Greg Ripley's """"Voice of the Elders"""" is a tale of alien intervention that explores the conflict between greedy climate denying fossil fuel corporations and progressive governments. The story follows several gifted young United Nations ambassadors on a thrilling adventure of self-discovery. Chased by climate denying terrorists from New York City and Washington DC to Switzerland and the Gansu Province, China, the adventurers must contact key elders from an alien world to bring humanity together and ultimately achieve an alliance that will combat the destructive effects of climate change--one that applies the """"mysterious feminine"""" and cyclical patterns in nature toward a creative power of transformation and regeneration. In this fantastical blend of rich history, ancient lore and fantasy, Ripley uses ancient parables and current science to explore our fractal relationships: from the inner space of the mind encompassing the entire universe to the solar breaches of the magnetosphere acting like acupuncture points on a human. An adventure story with meaning. -Nina Munteanu, author of """"Water Is..."""" I want to say right from the beginning that Voice of the Elders by Greg Ripley is a very good book. I liked it for a variety of reasons. First, the protagonist is a young person, and the reason she is at the center of this exciting event in human history is explained logically and clearly in a way that makes complete sense. I also like the fact that the hero is female and of mixed ethnic heritage; it just makes sense in today's world and makes the story a little more believable. And just as believable is the skepticism of some of the leaders and older people in various government positions. This future version of Earth is also believable, with its changing weather, climate problems, immigration problems, and the distrust and xenophobia that often accompany change and upheaval. The author sets the plot up beautifully and then delivers. I liked the plot. I loved the protagonist, and all the characters were well constructed. The setting was also done well. This future world is a logical extrapolation of the world we live in now. The writing is good for this story and the target audience. All these components of story telling come together in a crisp, tight tale that would no doubt make a great movie. Greg Ripley is a gifted writer who has put together a very thoughtful, timely, and, hopefully, very successful novel. I look forward to more great books from him. If you like thoughtful stories with strong female leads, you will want to buy Voice of the Elders by Greg Ripley. -Ray Simmons, Readers' Favorite A probing science fiction novel with compelling environmental themes, I'd call this book """"Daoist cli-fi."""" A new sub-genre.-Dan Bloom, editor, """"The Cli-Fi Report"""""
