WE GENERALLY SHIP WITHIN ONE BUSINESS DAY
IN STOCK items in your order are generally shipped from Abbey's within one business day.

Weekend orders go out on the Monday.

Items that are not in stock are ordered in and most arrive at Abbey's from our suppliers within 7 to 10 days. If your order has items arriving into stock within a few days, we will generally wait until all items are ready to ship in one parcel.

Some titles are not warehoused in Australia and these can take longer to arrive from our overseas suppliers.

If we become aware of delays, we will let you know as soon as possible. You can then let us know if you'd like to proceed with your order.

THE BOOK I WANT ISN'T IN STOCK - HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET IT?
Not all books are equal. Some are local, others are overseas. Some are in large quantities from huge publishers (fast to get in) and others are small quantities from tiny publishers (slow to get in).

Books that are in stock at our local suppliers will normally get to us within 7 to 10 days.

Books that are not warehoused locally can take 4 weeks or more to arrive here (e.g. foreign language books from overseas).

If we expect it later than 10 days, we will update you with an expected timeframe.

We're booksellers in an actual bookshop, so you can speak with us or email us if you have any questions.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOME OF MY ORDERED ITEMS ARE NOT IN STOCK?
If we expect any of your order from our local supplier quickly, we will hold in stock items till they arrive. If items are likely to be more than a 7-10 days for everything in your order to be in stock, we will ship what is already here.

Items taking more than approximately 2 weeks to source from our suppliers are consolidated here as they arrive until all items are ready for shipping in a second shipment. This CONSOLIDATED BACKORDER is shipped freight-free. We will contact you regarding any anticipated delay in sending these items.

If we become aware of unusual delays, we will ship items already received, then ship the delayed items when they arrive.

If however you want any of the consolidated items shipped before our planned back-order shipment, we can do this for an additional standard delivery charge within Australia - please contact us to arrange that.

PRO-TIP: Place separate orders. Place a separate order for books that are IN STOCK and these will be shipped straight away. Place another order for books that are forthcoming or not in stock. These will be consolidated here and shipped to you when the last item arrives.
WE USE AUSTRALIA POST FOR STANDARD SHIPPING AUSTRALIA-WIDE
Once we lodge items with Australia Post delivery is out of our hands. If your parcel is delayed, please contact your local Australia Post office. If you are still unable to locate it, please contact us and we will endeavour to assist you in tracking it.
WE CAN ALSO SHIP BY EXPRESS POST WITHIN AUSTRALIA
Express Post delivery charges for parcels up to 2kg:

• Australia-wide — $16

If you place your order before 1pm we will Express Post parcel all in stock items in your order to Australia Post on the same day. Orders placed after 1pm will be shipped the next business day. If your order was after 1pm but you absolutely must have it ship today, please phone us (select Option 4 for online orders) and we can let you know if we can get it away for you.

Where the weight exceeds 2kg, we will advise you of the charge prior to finalising the shipping of your order. You have the option to choose standard delivery at that time. Delivery charges are per order and per delivery address.

If you've selected Express Post and some items in your order are not in stock, the 'in stock' items will ship by Express Post and the others will be shipped by standard post (at no further charge) when they arrive. Alternatively, you can ask in Order Notes for everything to be held here and shipped as one Express Post shipment when everything has arrived into stock.

The Express Post service continues to be our fastest postal delivery option for our customers and we'll continue to prioritise these deliveries. They just may not be delivered next business day every time.

Parcels are not considered by Australia Post to be delayed or lost until they are 1 day beyond the maximum delivery window shown in the table. CAN I GIVE YOU SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR DELIVERY?
Australia Post's eParcel service only allows us to choose from a set of standard delivery instructions:

At the front door
On the front porch
Any safe place on my premises
Under carport/verandah
In my letterbox (if size allows)
By the side gate

Use the ORDER NOTES field in your order to give your delivery instructions and we will match it to the closest standard option.
SIGNATURE ON DELIVERY SERVICE
This Australia Post service option can be arranged for you if necessary. Please use the Order Notes to request this or contact us by phoning 02 9264 3111.
SHIPPING TO NORFOLK ISLAND (HELLO!)
Due to the special status of Norfolk Island with regards to GST, in the checkout please select Norfolk Island from the Country dropdown menu at the address, to remove GST.

Regretfully we can not extend our standard domestic shipping rates to customers from Norfolk Island, however we are able to offer standard shipping $15 (up to 2kg) and express shipping $30 (up to 2kg).
PAY ONLINE & PICKUP IN-STORE
You can complete your order online and select to have it held at the shop for collection. Payment is required at the time of placing your order. This service is only available within business hours. Please allow 2 hours before visiting the shop to collect your order.
PICKUP & PAY IN-STORE
This service is only available for pre-approved customers with an order history (i.e. not first-time customers). Only approved customers have this as a payment option in Checkout. This service allows you to complete your order online and select to have it held at the shop for collection. Payment is made in-store when collecting your order. WE SHIP INTERNATIONALLY VIA AUSTRALIA POST (OUR DELIVERY CHARGES)
Abbey's delivers worldwide via Australia Post. Countries are divided into five zones. Delivery charges for each zone are shown below for parcel weight up to 2kg. If it's over 2kg we will contact you before we do anything more. International orders are sent via standard airmail. Please note this standard service DOES NOT include tracking. If you require a tracked service, please contact us on orders@abbeys.com.au to arrange this. We offer a highly personalised service, so we'll look at the options and see what we can do for you. ORDERS RETURNED BY AUSPOST TO ABBEYS
Where items are returned to us by AusPost for incorrect address or failure to collect, we will contact you to confirm delivery address and how you would like to proceed.

If Abbey's used the delivery address provided, we may require payment of the AusPost return charge (as of March 2025 this charge is $13.51) and postage charges to resend the item.

In the event we are unable to reach you and do not get confirmation of how you would like to proceed with regards to re-sending the item, we may provide a store credit or refund for the items shipped (less postage costs and return fees incurred).
