As the world deals with Climate Change it has become clear that the time for delays is over and we need to come up with a complete time bound plan that is adequate in preventing excessive temperature rise and then to implement it! That is what this book offers. It describes a detailed plan that will help our Earth transform to one that has plenty of renewable energy, improves the living conditions of people, and is beautiful and healthy.

There is no question of doing without or even going backwards. The Book shows that there can be plenty of renewable energy for our expanding global energy needs while we are getting rid of fossil fuels and reducing our carbon emissions from them to zero by 2050 in order to keep global average temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius (1.5C). This is the temperature rise which the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned us we must not exceed in order to avoid the worst consequences of climate change.

Since Global Warming is a GLOBAL issue, the book presents a Global Energy Plan that is quantitatively adequate and timebound, in order to achieve that by the year 2050. It also presents detailed and quantitative energy, climate and ecosystem plans for the US, California, China, India, the European Union and general plans for other categories of nations. The variability of renewable energy (especially Solar) is overcome by showing that this energy can be stored in large quantities. The plans are technically feasible (meaning that they can be applied practically) and are economically viable (meaning that they are within the financial capacity of global society). While most of the plan can be implemented by current technical capabilities, the book shows that there is much scope for technical, social, business and political innovations that will increase our capabilities, which we are fully capable of.

So, leave gloom and doom behind. For the world and for each of the nations for which plans are presented, the book describes the worsening conditions that are hurting these nations in a big way (from worsening natural disasters, to bad pollutions, worsening health, and the worsening conditions for agriculture, water shortages and heat waves), and why these nations CANNOT AFFORD to delay implementation of climate change solutions of the type described in the book.

The US Green New Deal (GND) is a very good set of aspirations that aims at what the US should do to help with its share of solving the climate crisis, while at the same time improving the lives of people. The book describes how its plan will implement the mobilization goals described in the Green New Deal. It then goes on to describe a Global Green New Deal, and what this will mean for the world. Most importantly, the book also includes a global plan for strengthening and empowering a United Nations based global organization to plan, organize, fund, coordinate and implement the global plan.

"Because of his wide background, the author Dr. Hari Lamba, has the unique ability to understand all aspects of the PLAN and its solutions needed in energy, climate, economic development and ecosystems. He has experience in engineering, business and ecology. He has a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, with about 40 years of experience in industry, both in engineering product development and in advanced technology. He migrated from India to the USA as a young Sikh in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was one of the founders of the Earth Summit Network, an informal organization formed in Chicago in 1991-92 to educate the local public about the Earth Summit, or the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) that was held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992, where the original Global Warming Treaty was signed. Since then he has been active in non-profit groups, talking about and making presentations on Climate Change. During the time he was working in industry, he worked on the side by being active in environmental, developmental and climate change issues. Initially he was active in issues relating to South Asia or the Indian sub-continent, but then his activities expanded to the global level. Throughout the 1990s he engaged in a process of self-education through reading and writing that culminated in the publication of his first book, ""Rethinking Progress"". In this way he learned what had been happening globally, both in regard to the planet over 4.6 billion years, and in regard to the world from the beginnings of the scientific and industrial revolutions in Europe. Through this process he understood global problems and how nations become richer or poorer. He understood how Japan industrialized rapidly through cooperation between government and industry - a process that may be called command capitalism. The same process was later adopted by the nations of southeast Asia and now China. The process of climate change needs such a re-industrialization policy, but globally, in order to systematically build the new energy, electrification, and non-carbon fuel technologies. Dr. Lamba understands how this process can be implemented, but has enough understanding and sensitivity to ecology to know that this time it needs to happen with a significant attention to restoring and rejuvenating ecosystems at the same time. One cannot proceed to transform industry by destroying the natural world and worsening climate change as fossil fuels have done. Through his volunteer work and through self-education, he has developed a good understanding of environmental (ecological), developmental (technical, economic, industrial and financial) and political (democracy and empowerment) issues. He has published a number of technical engineering papers and has technical patents to his name in the field of materials, railway technology and energy. At the same time both on operating a side business and at work, he developed a good understanding of solar energy, wind energy, and battery technologies. The author knows how to plan, activate and implement all aspects of what he has proposed in cooperation with experts in the fields of ecology, technology, economics and politics. He is committed to helping the world accept and implement a plan for climate change solutions such as described in this book, and to cooperate with and help all others active in this field from the local to the global level."

Reviews for Brighter Climate Futures: A Global Energy, Climate & Ecosystem Transformation

Mylongexperiencewithfinancingsolarenergytellsmethattosolveour climateproblem requires an energy transformation of the type that Hari has proposed. He has the back- ground to understand the technologies, as well as the economic, political and ecologicalaspects of the solutions, that makes his transformation plan truly credible. Let's doit! Jigar Shah, Founder of SunEdison Dr . Lamba has produced a compendium of vital thoughts and solutions for achieving a sustainable future within a viable timeframe. Although the Clean Coalition aims to accel- eratethe transition to renewable energy and a modern grid even faster, I appreciate that Dr. Lamba recognizes the vital role that renewables-driven Community Microgrids willplay.
