Five years ago, teenager Laura Murray's psychic dreams helped catch Gary Wilson, a killer who took the lives of four people in her hometown of Wallaby Rock.

Now a police dog handler, Laura teams up with her friend, Leading Senior Constable Erica Martin, on a taskforce to investigate mysterious disappearances of young women in New South Wales.

With the help of bikie-turned-police informant Dan Garfield, they close in on a frontman for a crime network that is trafficking women. But when Dan's mutilated body is discovered shortly after, it's clear there's a traitor in the taskforce.

The events lead to a resurgence in disturbing dreams for Laura. A recurring theme is Gary Wilson and vague references to vengeance and family ties, but it's a dream featuring her own grandmother that drives a wedge in the taskforce when it shifts Laura's suspicions to Erica's boyfriend, Dr Simon Russell.

Amidst the chaos of the investigation, Laura has also found love with her co-worker, technical guru Leon Campbell and confides in him about her doubts about Simon. Leon encourages her to raise her concerns with Erica, but all it does is create a rift between the two friends.

Clues point to Simon working with the traffickers, yet as the taskforce closes in, Laura goes missing.

Meanwhile, the taskforce uncovers their mole only to learn that Laura's kidnapper is not just the trafficking network mastermind, she's also Gary Wilson's sister. And she is out for revenge.

Now, they're in a race to save one of their own before it's too late.

Reviews for Bad People

Kim Ulrick takes us on a wild ride in her new book Bad People, and the reader can't help but be impressed with her skill as a writer. She creates an authentic world of good and evil where the law battles criminality and its realism might just keep you awake at night. Brilliant characters, twists and turns, stunning setting, and a dog. It's the real deal. - Tracey Lee, author of the Lily O'Hara Mystery Series and The Aphorism Club
