Paul Russo was born in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. He attended local schools, including Chabot College, California State University, East Bay, and San Jose State University. Paul owned and operated a manufacturing business for several decades. During his long employment career, he was also active in his community. In addition to serving on local boards of directors, he raised nearly two million dollars for local primary and secondary education, donated twenty-five hundred redwood trees to a national arbor group aiding reforestation, and supported low-income youth in sports participation. Recognition for his charitable achievements included accolades from the California State Assembly and California State Senate, and a visit from the Governor of California. The Chamber of Commerce designated him as Business Person of the Year in 2005 in the city where his factory was located. For five years, Paul also hosted and acted as the executive producer of a community access television show, Best Kept Secrets, that highlighted community resources and encouraged volunteerism. Paul is married and has three grown children. Now retired, he is an avid writer and continues to exercise daily.
