Dumpster fire is the funny-but-not-so-funny term that frequently comes up when educators are explaining the conditions they are navigating on a daily basis. Feeling stress, overwhelm, and exhaustion has become the new norm. Veterans experiencing burnout feel forced to stay or are driven into other work, and new teachers have been difficult to retain. Educators are working harder than ever to refine classroom management skills so that they can effectively teach the multitude of complex standards they are responsible for, while carrying the burden of the state assessment results-reading outcomes, in particular.

This book focuses on teachers, the difficulties of teaching, and you - your values, your passions, your relationships, your life purpose, and it sets you up to create the conditions you want in your classroom ... and your life! This book provides the ability for you to dream, to get more of what you really want out of your life in and outside of the walls of school by creating awareness around how energy works in each and every one of us.

If you are a new teacher, tuck this book away and pull it out when the job gets difficult; it will get difficult.

If you have been teaching a while and are trying to figure out if this is what you want to do the rest of your life because it's not the work you thought it was going to be, start reading!

If you've been at this for any amount of time and you drag yourself to work counting down the days to retirement, telling yourself that you have to stick it out because it doesn't make financial sense to leave when you have so many years invested, even though you are exhausted and the days are joyless, start reading today and make it a priority to read a chapter or two a day.

Whether you plan to be a teacher for the long haul or wondering if you'll make it to the end of the day, learning about energy and how it presents in each and every one of us will serve you well in and outside the walls of school. This information about energy is unique and transformational because it has the potential to shift your mindset and your life, and you hold that power, right here, in your hands.

I feel invigorated as a teacher and professional after reading this thought-provoking book."" -Anne Brahe, High School Social Studies Department Chair ""Reading this book felt like sitting beside a friend...one who prompted me to reflect, pressed me in the kindest ways, and helped me let go of what no longer served me, personally and professionally."" -Robyn Bindrich, Wisconsin Department of Instruction Literacy Consultant ""This book is a gift. With writing that is authentic, witty, and wise, Lisa invites us into a deeper understanding of energy-how we cultivate it, how we share it, and how it shapes the spaces we lead and learn in. Her insights will stay with teachers and leaders long after the final page, challenging us to consider not just what we do, but how we are. This book has the power to shift mindsets, renew spirits, and truly transform the way we show up for ourselves and each other."" -Dr. Kim Brown, Director of Elementary Schools ""This is the book I didn't know I needed. As teachers, we read professional development books to learn theory and improve our classroom practices. I haven't read a book that focuses on teachers and our well being. Teachers currently exist in an environment they didn't create and can't control. Lisa provided me with real tools to shift me out of a space of burnout and helplessness. Her ideas can help any educator love the job again."" -Kristi Compton, Literacy Interventionist ""Uplift honors the emotional complexity of teaching while offering a path toward renewal, purpose, and possibility. With empathy, honesty, and clarity, Lisa Duxbury speaks to the heart of educators' lived experiences. She invites teachers on a journey of reflection, rediscovery, and meaningful change-both in the classroom and within themselves."" -Stacey Carr, ACC, Leadership and Well-being Coach ""This book feels like a heartfelt and courageous conversation with a trusted colleague-one who truly understands the challenges and triumphs of life in education. Lisa's words and reflective exercises offer both encouragement and insight. Her unique lens as both an educator and a certified iPEC coach brings a refreshing and holistic perspective, empowering educators not only to grow professionally but to thrive personally. This is more than a professional book-it's a guide to sustainable, joyful teaching from someone who genuinely gets it."" -Dr. Linda Kuhaupt, Director of Literacy
