The hotel quickly transforms the region, drawing influential families, private scandals, and enormous fortunes across the water.

Watching from the fading shoreline of Mohican Point is Captain Hiram Wilson, an older lake captain who sees the Sagamore as the death of the authentic Lake George he once knew. As the new hotel prospers, Wilson's resentment deepens into obsession. What begins as personal bitterness slowly becomes something far more dangerous.

At the same time, hidden records tied to the old Mohican House remain concealed within the island property. The documents contain evidence of private affairs, financial arrangements, and scandals involving some of the region's most influential summer families. Brown believes protecting those secrets preserves the stability of the hotel and the community around it. Others believe the records should never survive.

As tensions rise through the final years before disaster, strange incidents begin occurring inside the Sagamore itself. Locked doors jam unexpectedly. Staff hear footsteps in empty corridors. Children report unsettling sounds late at night. Storms rolling across the lake seem to change the atmosphere inside the hotel, turning its grand hallways into places of unease.

Then comes June 27, 1893.

A fire erupts inside the Sagamore during a crowded summer season, trapping guests, staff, and children within the burning structure. Amid the smoke and confusion, families become separated, hidden passageways turn deadly, and long-buried secrets threaten to vanish forever beneath collapsing walls.

More than a century later, in 1983, renovation work at the rebuilt Sagamore uncovers evidence suggesting portions of the lost records may still exist. As unexplained events begin occurring around the reconstructed upper corridors, questions surrounding the fire return once again to Lake George.

Blending historical mystery, emotional family drama, and restrained supernatural suspense, this novel explores whether places truly remember the people lost inside them.

Scott Hamele was born and raised in Kansas and has called the Kansas City area home since 1991. Married for more than thirty years, he values time with his two daughters and two grandchildren. He studied engineering at the University of Kansas, where he began writing articles and newsletters for university organizations. His first published work appeared in an ASME engineering publication in 1992, followed by decades of writing in the commercial construction industry.In the 2000s, Hamele turned his research instincts toward historical fiction, developing story concepts rooted in real places and overlooked histories.
