Kathy Kochan was diagnosed with diabetes at five years old. For years, she managed her diabetes using an insulin pump, ate dessert every day, and credited her excellent health to conscientious food preparation. She was a cooking enthusiast, regularly lecturing and teaching healthy cooking classes in her native New Jersey. In 2010, she passed away after a 22- year battle with breast cancer; she was also a proud 56-year survivor of insulin-dependent diabetes. She is survived by her husband, Henry, and her sons, David and Marc.
