José Antonio Álvarez Caperochipi holds a PhD in law and is a certified professor (catedrático) by the Spanish National Accreditation Agency (ANECA). He has taught at the Universities of Navarre, Madrid, Compostela, and Burgos, and in 1989 was appointed magistrate of the High Court of Navarre. He is the author of a widely used civil law textbook as well as several works exploring the relationship between religion and law--most notably Reforma Protestante y Estado Moderno (2nd ed., 2008).
