G.R. Murphy (Murf) was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up fishing, anywhere and everywhere, freshwater and saltwater. At the age of twenty-four, he joined the Charlotte Fire Department, where he also became an emergency medical technician as well as a swiftwater rescue technician. Now retired, he resides with his wife somewhere in the ""Brushy Mountains"" of North Carolina, fly fishing as much as possible.
