This book proposes an integrative and mechanistic model to understand Sensory Processing Regulation Disorders as a systemic expression of neurobiological dysregulation, beyond the classical approaches focused exclusively on sensory integration. From the framework of Psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology, the roles of chronic low-grade neuroinflammation, dysautonomia, excitation-inhibition imbalance, microglia, the gut-brain-microbiota axis, and neuroendocrine stress programming in the genesis of sensory phenotypes are discussed in an articulate manner.
