"Kids feel things so deeply that, a lot of times, it catches parents off-guard. But there's a way to give kids back their power by helping them find their voice. My Magic Bottle of Emotions explores twelve everyday emotions in a way that's meaningful for young children, using colorful language and illustrations.

When you're feeling shy, you're PINK: pink prickles, throat tickles, bashful, quiet, invisible. When you're feeling disappointed, you're BLUE: blue, a lost shoe, let down, confused, frustrated. By the end of this imaginative book, a child will associate emotions with familiar colors, have a better understanding of how emotions appear, and, most importantly, feel safe to let their colorful emotions POP! out of their ""magic bottle"" so they don't get trapped inside.

Whether a child is typically developing or has special needs, emotions can be difficult to identify and correctly label.

This can be especially true for kids that fall on the autism spectrum. Our goal was to create a book that fosters emotional intelligence in children of all abilities. Many kids on the spectrum have varying degrees of sensory processing disorder (SPD). That's why we used as many sensory words as possible used to describe each emotion in this book. ""Yellow swing,"" for example, is a great description for happy because children with SPD often find the act of swinging calming and grounding.

The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) recommends using picture books to help children identify emotions and teach them how to deal with their feelings. For children and adults, emotional intelligence (EQ) has been determined to be a greater contributor to success than even IQ."

Katherine Bauch and her husband, Robert, married young and traveled all around the country as he served as an officer in the United States Air Force. Katherine's full time focus and passion is being a mom to her daughter, Marie-Claire, who was born with a rare genetic condition known as Williams syndrome (WS). Williams syndrome is characterized by developmental delays, heart defects, and a unique behavioral profile that often overlaps with the autism spectrum. Katherine spends a lot of time learning from and collaborating with Marie-Claire's team of therapists, educators, and doctors. Shortly after her daughter's second open-heart surgery, Katherine quit her job as a sonographer at Massachusetts General Hospital to homeschool Marie-Claire. Recently, the family moved back to their native state, Colorado, after spending seven years in the Boston area.Katherine believes the often-challenging but rewarding responsibility of raising a child with special needs has made her a stronger and more empathetic person. She is passionate about educating others about the importance of inclusion and encouraging other parents of special needs children. My Magic Bottle of Emotions is her debut children's book. Bethany Ramos is a Colorado-based and Texas-transplanted editor, writer, blogger, and author. My MagicBottle of Emotions is her third children's book and fifth published book, co-written with her writing partner, longtime friend, and former roommate Katherine Bauch. While no parent in their right mind likes bath time, reading to her two sons is Bethany's favorite nightly ritual. Getting to share important messages with kids through her books makes Bethany's life a little more complete. Bethany currently works as a full-time creative writer on all things finance and mortgage for CornerstoneHome Lending, Inc. She has served as Editor-in-Chief for Naturally Healthy Publications, and her work has appeared as a staff writer for SheKnows.com and on Time.com, Yahoo.com, Babble.com, and Mamamia.com.au. Bethany also attended Charis Bible College and the Noble School of Cosmetology, where she became an ordained minister and an esthetician, in that order. Bethany lives with her husband, two sons, and two dogs in Colorado, after moving back to the mountains from SouthTexas to be closer to family. When she's not writing, she's, predictably, reading. And when she's not reading, she's running for fun or, more likely, after her two kids. Bethany stays afloat with an endless cycle of coffee and meditation.
