अथ योगानुशासनम् ॥ १.१ ॥

atha yogānuśāsanam ॥ 1.1 ॥

Now, I enunciate the discipline of Yoga.

Thus begin the Yoga Sutras of Maharishi Patanjali. This one sutra sprouts a thousand questions, and causes one to wonder.

We spend a lot of life looking for answers. Our life looms over us like a big question, never letting us rest, never letting us stop. There is no end to the things we do for those answers except for one little thing. We never turn in. We never stop to seek answers in our own self. We never seek to scale the walls our minds create. No one can give us any answers. The purpose of the knowledge is not to provide answers. If answers could be found just by listening or reading a book, the entire world would have become enlightened a long time ago. The purpose of knowledge is simple - it motivates us to find our own answers. It plants a seed of curiosity - we start asking the big questions. Once the questions are right, and the intent to look for answers is unshakeable, the answers reveal themselves. It is inevitable. Truth cannot be denied to those who seek it.

Keeping this fundamental, irrevocable principle in mind, this book has been penned in the hopes that the knowledge of Yoga Sutras will nudge you in asking the right questions. The illustrations have been carefully created by a brilliant illustrator and a yoga master for each sutra. Art provides a unique opportunity to go beyond logic, and connect to something beyond the intellect. All the subtleties of the mind are engaged, through words and through art, through philosophy and psychology, and through science and spirituality.

Come and experience a mystic amalgamation of art and prose of the ancient knowledge of Yoga.
