The need of the hour is for the church to hold passionately to historic Christian beliefs, as found in God's word; to place the Bible as the ultimate authority in our lives; and to pursue Gospel living and sharing with energetic fervour.

We need to be Good News People.

Gavin and Phil invite you see what evangelicals have always been, and what we need to remember to be: committed to Jesus, the gospel, and hopefulness. Our churches and the world face big challenges - and the authors invite you to consider practical roadmaps to navigate our shifting culture.

With lessons from history, inspiration from Scripture, and the energy of Spirit-filled disciples, this is a book to inspire and encourage you as you seek to be good news where you live.

Reviews for Good News People: Hopeful evangelicals yesterday, today and tomorrow

""I love this book. It is easy to read, the people are real, the experiences are real and it breaks down the gospel in a way that not only brings clarity but causes a renewal of confidence in the faith and a desire to be a relentless advocate of the gospel of Jesus Christ for the seasoned and new Christian alike. Bravo to the Evangelical Alliance."" -- Revd Celia Apeagyei-Collins, founder and CEO, The Rehoboth Foundation ""What a book! Excitingly biblical, remarkably contemporary and profoundly relevant to our church, country, culture and local community. This book really is authentic good news about Good News people... the Church of Jesus Christ. The book is saturated with hope! With refreshing honesty and prophetic insight, Gavin and Phil have given us a gold mine. From their vast personal experience and drone-like perspective of God's people across the United Kingdom, they have given us a superb resource. In a society where we are so often tiptoeing in minefields, this book is full of visionary signposts, probing challenges and immense encouragement."" -- Bishop Ken Clarke, former Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh ""Good News People is a compelling call to an evangelical unity that holds firm to the authority of Scripture, the centrality of the cross, and the lordship of Christ, while also remaining engaged with the world around us. Gavin Calver and Phil Knox challenge us to embody the good news of the gospel we share, reflecting the love of Jesus, holding firm to the counter cultural truths of his Lordship, and sharing the hope found in him alone. This is an important book for any who long to see the gospel proclaimed with clarity, conviction and compassion by churches, organisations and individual Christians united in Christ."" -- Matt Lillicrap, CEO, UCCF ""Good News People is an inspiring and practical read for anyone passionate about sharing the gospel. Written by two top men of God in our nation today, this book equips readers with faith-filled wisdom and biblical grounding to engage today's culture with truth and grace. It encourages and challenges us to play our part in building God's church, spreading the good news with confidence, kindness and conviction. A must-read!"" -- Jay Lusted, Lead Pastor, Festival Church Old Colwyn, actor and TV presenter ""Good News People is a timely and urgent call to embrace the hope, unity and boldness of the gospel in our generation. With contagious passion and keen insight, Gavin and Phil weave together compelling stories, rich theological depth and practical wisdom to inspire believers to stand firm and shine brightly. This book is both an encouragement and a challenge - a powerful reminder that evangelicalism, at its core, is about standing on the truth of Scripture, proclaiming the life-changing message of Jesus, and living out our faith with courage and compassion. Whether you are a church leader, a new believer, or someone longing to see God move in fresh ways, Good News People will stir your heart, strengthen your faith and equip you to carry the good news into a world that desperately needs it. I highly recommend it!"" -- Revd Nims Obunge MBE DL, Senior Pastor, Freedoms Ark, Tottenham and CEO of The Peace Alliance ""Good News People arrives as a timely manifesto for the Church as we navigate cultural complexities with both courage and grace. This compelling book challenges us to be brave yet kind, culturally relevant without compromise and realistically hopeful in our witness. This wonderful book both inspires and equips us to make Jesus known with renewed clarity and conviction in today's rapidly changing landscape."" -- Revd Mark Pugh, General Superintendent, Elim Pentecostal Church and Apostolic Lead, Rediscover Church, Exeter ""It is difficult to think of a more important book to read at this juncture. It touches on a host of super relevant themes. Gavin and Phil articulate evangelical values for a new generation this side of the Atlantic. A must read for those who want to be relevant in the public square for this generation."" -- Bishop Mike Royal, General Secretary, Churches Together in England ""Some Christian leaders exhibit a remarkable awareness of a given cultural moment. Others share great enthusiasm for encouraging signs among churches, but often without this awareness. In this book you get both. With deep insight and gospel vision, Gavin Calver and Phil Knox pool their extensive experience to proclaim that ""God is on the move in the UK church"". Yes, we see many challenges in the Western church today. But we also know that our God is on the move advancing his mission in our time. This book gives the good news story of that advance."" -- Dr Ed Stetzer, Dean, Talbot School of Theology at Biola University and Scholar in Residence and Teaching Pastor, Mariners Church, Anaheim ""Gavin and Phil's book feels like being guided to sure footing in rocky terrain. It has filled me with fresh joy, courage and hope: instead of fear about how I'll be perceived as an evangelical, Good News People has reminded me of the joy of bearing that name. Instead of feeling pushed back, it's poured courage into me to press on; instead of despair at the state of our broken world, it's energised me with renewed hope that there is a hunger for the gospel. Above all, Good News People has inspired me afresh to keep my eyes firmly fixed on Jesus and to take every opportunity to tell others about how wonderful he is."" -- Natalie Williams, CEO, Jubilee+ ""Reading this book is like breathing pure oxygen. As you turn the pages, strength, hope, encouragement and courage fill your heart and spirit. This book encourages us to hold firm to the power of the gospel, the power of the Bible and the power of Christian activism at a time of crisis, loneliness and uncertainty. Mostly it's a book of hope. God is on the move. The times are serious, but the times are changing and the time for a Jesus movement is now."" -- Ness Wilson, Pioneer UK Leader and Team Leader, Open Heaven Church, Loughborough
