The book is organized into two distinct units, which focus on the history and causes of gangs and societal responses to gangs, respectively. Timothy S. Nixon is an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Westfield State University. Prior to joining the faculty at Westfield, he served as a crime analyst with the New York City Police Department. Dr. Nixon holds a Ph.D. in criminology and criminal justice, as well as a master's degree in criminal justice, from the University of Cincinnati.
