Body of Evidence is a series of essays sharing experiences of, and reflections on, living in a body that is a walking crime scene. Each essay addresses a part of the author's physical self, detailing how abuse has affected it. In her writing, Hazel Katherine Larkin is searingly honest. She acknowledges that she is the site of several forms of sexual violence, neglect, emotional abuse, trafficking, self-harm, near death, and attempted suicide. She acknowledges that she is also the site of recovery, celebration, joy, pregnancy, birth, nourishment, healing, and love. As well as documenting the long-term effects of abuse, this book offers hope and illustrates how love and cycle-breaking changed the author's life.
