Quentin Blake has been drawing ever since he can remember and he is one of the world's best loved and most successful children's illustrator and author. After studying English at Cambridge University and life-classes at Chelsea Art School, he became a teacher and for many years taught at the Royal College of Art where he was head of the Illustration Department. Quentin was made an OBE in 1988 and, in the words of the Guardian, was already a national institution when he was appointed the first Children's Laureate in 1999.
