In the ice, silence is forever . . .

In the ice, silence is forever . . .

During the winter of 1922, the Exploration Vessel RAVEN became trapped in the Antarctic icepack, entombing twenty-eight men aboard it through the dark polar night. INTO WHITE SILENCE tells their story - a story of a lost past, of a tragic future, of ice, ambition and madness. It captures the terrible, fascinating beauty of Antarctica, both as it was then and as it is today, and is a journey into the mind of every person who has ever set foot upon those ice-bound shores.

Award -winning Australian writer Anthony Eaton has long been fascinated with both the history and the reality of Antarctica and so when, In 2005, he was offered the chance to spend 6 weeks traveling to and from Casey Antarctic Station, in Wilkes land, Antarctica, he leapt at the opportunity. During that voyage, he became both enchanted and cowed by the power and beauty of Antarctica, and the impact that it has on the minds and hearts of every man or woman who is lucky enough to experience it. Into White Silence is the result of that voyage. He is the author of 11 novels for various readerships, has twice won the Western Australian Premier's Award, holds a PhD in creative writing, and teaches at the University of Canberra in the ACT, where he lives with his wife and son.
