Once upon a time there were three bears, seven dwarfs, five gorillas, a frog prince, some sleeping beauties, a wolf, a dinosaur, a mad hatter, a steamboat, four firemen on a fire engine, a considerable number of giant beanstalks - and a little boy named Jeremiah Obadiah Jackenory Jones.

Jeremiah lives in the Dark Woods with his grandma, who is brave enough to fight off crocodiles with her bare hands and her handbag. But her legs aren't so good, so when her jam tarts are stolen she sends Jeremiah into the woods to find the culprit...

Another highly entertaining story from Janet and Allan Ahlberg, which will delight both children and parents

Reviews for Jeremiah in the Dark Woods

Back in the good old days when fairy-tale characters roam the forest, a boy named Jeremiah Obadiah Jackenory Jones is sent off after the robbers of his grandma's tarts. Jeremiah meets with protestations of innocence from three bears, five duded-up gorillas playing cards on a riverboat, and a wolf who only eats grandmas; by the time he discovers that the culprit is a little girl named Goldilocks (readers will have guessed it sooner), he's run into a dinosaur reading Krazy Fat, a mad hatter at tea, a crafty croc who has swallowed a clock, a frog prince, and more. The Ahlbergs seem to assume that merely throwing all these characters together is entertainment enough. It isn't. (Kirkus Reviews)
