An excellent and extremely useful resource throughout my university studies. This book is suitable for students at all stages and levels, from those just starting university to those working on major projects such as dissertations. I have personally been using it to support my dissertation, and the clear, step-by-step guidance has made the process far more manageable and less overwhelming. The book covers a wide range of important topics, including academic writing skills, becoming an active learner, looking after yourself at university, using AI responsibly, and practical support with written work, layouts, and structure. The dissertation section is particularly valuable, offering clear frameworks and guidance that are easy to follow and apply. What I appreciated most is how practical and accessible the content is. The frameworks provided throughout the book help break down complex academic tasks into clear, achievable steps. Overall, this book has genuinely helped me with my studies, and I would highly recommend it to any university student looking for clear, supportive, and practical guidance from day one through to dissertation submission. -- Abbigail Parkin Writing Skills for University covers the student journey from accepting your place to the final year and writing your dissertation. It is concise and easy to read, with clear headings, short paragraphs, and examples. There are three parts, The Skills, The Written Work and The Dissertation, so whatever stage you are as an undergraduate student you will find useful hints and tips. At the end of each chapter there is a summary, checklist and suggested further reading, so it is easy to navigate. It also includes a chapter on looking after yourself and where to get help should you need it, which is invaluable for students who are living away from home for the first time. Reading the chapter on feedback provided me with greater clarity and understanding. With the variety of topics covered and the accessible writing style, I highly recommend this book. It has already helped me with assignments, and it will be a valuable resource for when I start preparing my dissertation. -- Helen Desmond
