Tom Trimmins started woodworking when he was given his first workbench and tools at eight years old. It's been a lifelong passion ever since. After a childhood of making projects at home and hanging around a local cabinet maker's workshop, he studied furniture-making at degree level in Buckinghamshire. After that he worked for several high-end furniture workshops before starting his own business in 2009. He started teaching after telling a friend that it was something he really wanted to do. Harbouring his own woodworking ambitions, his friend said if Tom would teach, he would find a group of interested people to learn. Tom has now been teaching woodwork every week for eight years. In addition to teaching woodworking classes, Tom makes fine furniture at his workshop on a city farm in Islington, London. He works on commissions or teaches during the day and takes classes in the evening. Tom is a traditionally trained craftsman, with a modern Japanese and midcentury-influenced style with a broad appeal.
