Read the incredible stories and hear the dreams of 30 young Indigenous people and People of Colour protecting the planet

Indigenous people and people of colour are disproportionately affected by climate change, yet often aren’t heard in global conversations. In this book, British—Bangladeshi environmentalist and race activist 'Birdgirl' Mya-Rose Craig speaks to campaigners from around the world about what needs to be done.

From wildlife conservation to clean water, air pollution to plastic waste, climate justice to climate strikes, the time has come to listen to a generation of young people of colour demanding urgent change for the world they will inherit.

Mya-Rose Craig aka 'Birdgirl' is a British-Bangladeshi naturalist, environmentalist and race activist. In February 2020, Mya-Rose became the youngest British person to be awarded an honorary doctorate in science from Bristol University, in recognition of her five years of campaigning for diversity in the environmental sector. Sabrena Khadija is a Sierra Leonean-American illustrator. As a Black creative, Sabrena takes a lot of pride in creating work that helps others feel seen and inspired. Not only to see beauty within themselves, but to recognize and acknowledge that of others. Of her practice, she says, I am one of the growing number of human beings who seek inclusive and innovative spaces to explore art and creativity in meaningful and impactful ways.

Reviews for We Have a Dream: Meet 30 Young Indigenous People and People of Colour Protecting the Planet

We Have a Dream is a moving and thought-provoking collection of stories of formidable young Indigenous people and People of Colour. These campaigners are achieving incredible things to secure a better future for all. I defy you not to feel energised to join this global community of inspirational advocates for nature after reading this book. We are a far more powerful, more beautiful species together than when we are divided. -- Liz Bonnin, Science, Natural History and Environmental broadcaster Mya-Rose Craig stands at the vanguard of a movement of great importance. We Have a Dream highlights extraordinary voices from around the globe; young activists who want a better future for our planet. This wave of hope will be remembered alongside the great civil rights movements of the past. -- Steve Backshall, naturalist, explorer, author and broadcaster We Have A Dream is filled with power and hope. It is so important that young people are knowledgeable about how the climate crises is already affecting Indigenous communities and telling their stories is crucial if we are to tackle the challenges our planet is facing. It was truly wonderful to read and I feel inspired by the work of these incredible activists. Mya-Rose is a brilliant and commanding nature defender. Raising the platform of other young people reflects her generous spirit. Mya-Rose's work to raise awareness of the plight of our magnificent earth and how we can all use our voices to save nature is exceptional. -- Dara McAnulty, naturalist, writer and environmental campaigner
