Way Down South presents 213 colour photographs showcasing the stunning and dramatic landscapes and abundant wildlife of the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, the South Shetland and Falkland Islands to create an epic volume of landscape and wildlife photography that takes the viewer on a remarkable visual journey to some of the southern polar region’s most remote, beautiful, fragile, dynamic, and significant locations.
The photographs are complemented by evocative and thoughtful texts by two of the world’s most experienced polar adventurers and expedition leaders, with a foreword by Greg Mortimer OAM and an essay by Howard Whelan.

Way Down South reveals the dynamic nature of the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, South Shetland and Falkland Islands, realms in constant flux shaped by the ever-changing weather and environment.

Richard l'Anson's photographs transcend static beauty, masterfully capturing the relentless sculpting of icebergs by the elements, the fluid textures of ice, the mesmerising dance of light and cloud across frozen vistas, and the lively and captivating presence of the wildlife populations that call the southern polar regions home.

Way Down South is a visceral journey into the very heart of this transformative region, inspiring awe and understanding while highlighting the power and vulnerability of the region's dynamic landscapes.

Richard made his first trip to Antarctica in 2006 and has returned regularly since 2016 to the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia on assignment, as a photographer, guest speaker and leading photography expeditions.
