Warrior-Pioneers II: Extracts from the Boone Papers, Volumes 14C-15C of the Draper ManuscriptsDefenders of the western frontiers of Virginia, Kentucky, and Missouri were Lyman Draper's narrators in these transcriptions from two volumes of the Boone Papers of Draper's collection, held by the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Letters and depositions of Daniel Boone and others follow his years in Kentucky, Kanawha, and Missouri; as well as detailed Indian captivity stories sent to Draper from members of the Sharp, Flinn, and Tackett families. They wrote of their last glance at burning cabins as they were carried off to Indian towns to be adopted, sold, enslaved, or killed.
The last part of the volume contains correspondence and interviews from Missouri, where Draper heard from transplanted Kentuckians who told of building cabins and forts all over again for defense in Missouri alongside sons of Daniel Boone. Eyewitness accounts of battles in Missouri and Black Hawk War close this volume.
Facsimile reprints of original documents with letters of Daniel Boone are included. An index presents full names, places, and subjects.
