Robert Cornwall is Minister Emeritus of Central Woodward Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Troy, Michigan. He holds a PhD in historical theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and is the author/editor of more than twenty books, including Religion, Politics and Dissent in the Long Eighteenth Century (2010), co-edited with William Gibson, along with numerous articles that include contributions to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
""For a generation of students, Robert Cornwall's Visible and Apostolic provided a sturdy and engaging introduction to the sacramental and ecclesiological thought of the Anglican high church movement in the half-century following the Glorious Revolution. It is perhaps no accident that the decades since its first appearance in 1993 have seen a veritable renaissance of scholarship on the ecclesiastical history and politics of the post-revolution era. A substantially revised new edition of Cornwall's book, which incorporates much of the new scholarship that followed in the wake of the original, is most welcome indeed."" --Brent S. Sirota, Professor of History, North Carolina State University ""Robert D. Cornwall's happily reissued and revised book comprehensively affirms the richness of the high church and nonjuring traditions within Anglicanism between the Revolution of 1688 and the mid-eighteenth century. He rightly insists that the nonjuror movement may have had a Jacobite dimension but, no less importantly, that it had firm theological foundations that would not compromise the church's spiritual integrity. Scholars and students will be gratified to have Cornwall's assessment of this enduring belief system once more readily available."" --Nigel Aston, Research Associate, University of York
