British East India Company came to India as traders but became the rulers of the country. Slowly, they turned the face of our natural wealth towards their own country. The raw material was imported from here to Britain and the finished product ready for sale came to India. In this very way, they kept on exploiting the wealth of India.

During the struggle for independence, movements sometimes became sweet and sometimes sour. Tribal people had to do violent movements from their traditional weapons to sustain. Farmers fought in both violent and non-violent ways. The Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 proved to be a milestone. The brave warrior Mangal Pandey sacrificed his life, which added fuel to the fire, which made other warriors like Nana Sahib, Queen of Jhansi Laxmi Bai, Tantya tope, Bahadur Shah Jafar too made precious sacrifices. Soon after this revolt, the rule of East India Company ended and the administration of India fell into the hands of the Queen of England.

Further, revolutionists like Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose, Ashfkullah Khan, Batukeshwar Dutt, Khudiram Bose adopted the policy of Tit for tat and taught Britishers in their language.

National Leader, Bal Gangadhar Tilak gave a public outlook to Ganesh Mahotsav and added lakhs of people to this movement. Mahatma Gandhi started a movement of independence from Champaran and adopted non-violence and Satyagraha as his basic principles. His movements like Swadeshi, Home rule, Non-cooperation, Dandi march and August Kranti sparked a new consciousness in the people of India towards the spirit of independence which made people join together, advancing towards freedom.
