Charel D. du Toit holds a cotutelle/dual PhD in New Testament and related literature from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Pretoria (2025). He is currently a research fellow at the University of Pretoria, where he heads a research lab on the parables of Jesus. He frequently publishes internationally in academic journals, books, newspapers, blogs, and periodicals, focusing on developing hermeneutical lenses to help unhide vulnerable voices in biblical texts and society.
""Dr. Charel du Toit's is a very welcome and eye-opening contribution to New Testament studies. His argument is that we can't see women in New Testament texts whose presence would have been obvious to the first generations of their readers. . . . Both theologically committed and secular historians can benefit from this book that also provides inspiration for those who would want to counter overlooking gender minorities today."" --Peter-Ben Smit, Dom Hélder Câmara Chair in Contextual Biblical Interpretation, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam ""Unhiding Women in the Parables is a transformative guide that restores vital voices long overlooked in Scripture. Du Toit's innovative methodology invites readers to see Jesus's parables through fresh eyes, revealing the essential presence and labor of women in first-century communities. Accessible yet rigorous, this study equips churches and individuals with practical tools for more inclusive biblical interpretation. A groundbreaking work that heals wounds, challenges assumptions, and moves us toward a fuller, more just understanding of the gospel."" --Ernest van Eck, Principal, Knox College, Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto
