Töres Theorell, PhD, MD, retired professor of psychosocial medicine at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, was born in 1942, became a licensed physician at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm in 1967, and defended his PhD thesis in 1971. He worked in clinical medicine (internal medicine and cardiology) and was appointed professor of health care research and from 1995 professor of psychosocial medicine at the Karolinska Institutet. After retirement he has been a scientific consultant at the department of psychology at the university of Stockholm and also a lecturer at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Theorell is author/co-author of 486 articles available in Medline. His bibliometric D-index is 86. He has supervised 47 doctoral students. He is a member of the Academia Europeae. His research has been in epidemiological and physiological aspects of cardiovascular disease and depression as well as in intervention research.
