Unconventional Warfare Study Research and Writing Guide.
The purpose of this research and writing guide is to assist JHU/APL and Special Forces personnel to create UW case studies. By following the approach outlined in this guide, the researcher and author can create a case study that complements and contributes to the work in the ARIS portfolio.
The hallmark of the UW case study is a focus on the motivations, methods, and activities of the resistance movement's external supporter, whether a state or non-state actor.
The guide recommends that any new case study comprises six sections:
1) an introduction that describes the research questions, the methodology, and the findings;
2) an overview of the external supporters discussed in the case study;
3) a discussion of the historical and socioeconomic factors that shape the environment in which the resistance operates;
4) an overview of the resistance movement, to include its structure and activities;
5) a description of the nature and effect of the external supporters' activities; and
6) a conclusion.
