The book, Ultrasound Services in Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecological Unit, Book 1 written by Oluwakemi O. Ola-Ojo, can be best described as a combined, yet comprehensive detail of contents and package!

Oluwakemi O. Ola-Ojo, herself a trained and practicing radiographer/ultrasonographer with many years of experience, presents in the first chapter of this book, an in-depth assessment of the ultrasound services required in the Early Pregnancy and in an Acute Gynaecological unit from the design of the unit, to the arrangement of its facilities; infection control, quality and safety measures as well as protocols and guidelines to be observed during and after the procedure.

Chapter 2 presents normal ultrasound appearances of the embryo, fetus and the maternal ovaries in the first trimester. It addresses pregnancy dating. Chapter 3 presents in detail, many of the clinical indications for emergency ultrasound in early pregnancy with relevant case presentations. The author also addresses the issues involved in 'communicating bad news' as well as the technicality of ultrasound reporting in early pregnancy. Book 1, chapter 4, concludes with more case presentations.

This book is primarily a resource for students, newly qualified sonographers, and trainee doctors in the field of obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasound, and would, no doubt, serve as a useful reference book for practitioners who need to stay on course and acquaint themselves with current practices.

The book which comes highly recommended is presented in two parts, with Book 1 addressing Early Pregnancy Ultrasound while Book 2 focuses on Emergency Gynaecology Ultrasound.
