The mining and allied industries are now fully geared to meet the challenges of the user industries commensurate with the overall industrial growth in the country. In this context, the earthmoving machines play a dominant role to maximize the production capacity. The tyres are the critical elements contributing significantly to the operation and maintenance cost of mobile earthmoving machines. Selection, application, and effective management of tyres are therefore the important issues in relation to the day-to-day operation of the tyre-mounted machines deployed in these industries. The problems associated with the use of Off-the-Road (OTR) tyres are largely different from those linked to other transportation systems, given their harsh operating environments.

In view of the above, the first National Seminar on ""Tyres in Mining and Allied Sectors-Status and Outlook"" was organized by the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. Delegates from prominent tyre manufacturing companies, major mining and allied industries, leading educational institutions, and national R&D laboratories attended the seminar. The Seminar Volume contains twenty-two selected technical papers to comprehensively cover the various critical aspects of tyres, including advanced design and manufacturing techniques, performance testing, failure analysis, proactive maintenance strategies, and the sustainable disposal of scrap tyres. This compilation serves as a vital resource for industry professionals.
