This inspiring book introduces twenty concepts for printmakers to use to enhance their work ranging from abstraction to composition, and from symbolism to boundaries. It focuses on woodblock printmaking but the principles it covers can be applied to all graphical and pictorial arts. Mainly pictorial, it includes fine examples of finished work from leading makers and students, and is a remarkable and thought-provoking addition to any maker's library.

AUTHORS: Merlyn Chesterman was brought up in Hong Kong, studied Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham and lived and studied in Asia for many years. She taught on the Short Course Programme at West Dean College for nearly 20 years, and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 2014. She is driven by an interest in atmosphere, both physical and abstract.

Rod Nelson encountered the work of Shiko Munakata at an exhibition in London in 1994. From that moment on, he decided to make woodblock prints. He acquired some tools and taught himself, having had the benefit of working with wood for many years before that time. Since then he has continued to learn and to teach. In 2022 he was elected an associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
