David Van Lear taught silviculture, ecology, and forest soils for 35 years at Clemson University. He and his students published about 150 scientific and technical papers on the effects of forest practices on water quality, wildlife habitat, soil productivity and nutrient cycling. Carolyn, his wife of 43 years, has been his faithful companion and supporter throughout his lifetime fishing adventure. They live in South Carolina and have two grown children, Chris and Melanie.
