The field of medicine that deals with the health issues that are unique, or are more widespread, in tropical and subtropical regions is known as tropical medicine. Some common diseases in the tropical and subtropical regions include malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. However, there are several non-communicable diseases and neglected tropical diseases which affect the health of people living in the tropical and subtropical regions. Lack of preventive medicine, education and proper diet have led to a significant mortality due to non-communicable diseases, such as cancer, respiratory diseases and cardiovascular diseases. Chagas disease, dengue, leprosy, rabies and eumycetoma are some common examples of neglected tropical diseases.
