In hoc opere, auctor diligenter examinat naturam legalem et sacramentalem unionis coniugalis. Textus comprehendit analysim subtilem de impedimentis matrimonialibus, de consensu mutuo, de forma canonica celebrationis, et de effectibus iuridicis coniugii. De Smet auctoritatem suam fundat super fontes iuris antiqui et Codicem Iuris Canonici anni 1917, praebens interpretationem claram et scholasticam pro studentibus, advocatis ecclesiasticis, et viris in cura pastorali occupatis.
Hic tractatus non solum regulas legales exponit, sed etiam fundamenta theologica quae matrimonium sicut mysterium et sacramentum illustrant. Est fons praecipuus pro iis qui volunt cognoscere evolutionem et applicationem legum ecclesiasticarum de vita familiari et matrimoniali. Per hanc investigationem, Al. de Smet confirmat pondus stabilitatis et sanctitatis matrimonii in ordine canonico.
