Discover the foundational text of Jewish faith and tradition like never before with ""Torah in English: The Five Books of Moses - English Torah Translation (JPS) Reworked."" This edition offers a modern, accessible, and meticulously reworked translation of the 1917 JPS (Jewish Publication Society) classic, brought to new life by Jewish scholar and author Noah Schwarz.

Why This Edition Stands Out:

Accessible to Everyone - Beginners and Scholars Alike:

This edition uniquely bridges the gap between tradition and modernity, making it suitable for readers of all backgrounds and levels of familiarity with the Torah. By combining the classic 1917 JPS translation-clelebrated for its close adherence to the original Hebrew text-with modernized vocabulary, it offers a perfect balance of authenticity and accessibility. Beginners will appreciate the clarity of the updated language, while scholars will value its faithfulness to the original text and the nuance it retains for in-depth study. Comprehensive Content - All Five Books of Moses:

This edition contains the complete Torah: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers,

and Deuteronomy. Together, these five books form the cornerstone of Jewish faith and tradition, offering timeless wisdom and insights into morality, spirituality, and humanity Modernized Vocabulary for Clarity and Relevance:

The original JPS translation, while revered, uses outdated vocabulary that can obscure the text's profound meaning for contemporary readers. Noah Schwarz, with his expertise in modernizing classic works and years of experience as an editor, has reworked the language to be both faithful to the original text and accessible to modern audiences. This ensures that the Torah's teachings resonate clearly and powerfully today. Changes include:

""Thou"" to ""you""; ""Doth"" to ""does""; ""Hast"" to ""have""; ""Thee to"" ""You"" ... And over 50 other outdated expressions, ensuring a smooth reading experience for modern audiences. Reader-Friendly Two-Column Layout:

The Torah is presented in a two-column format, enhancing readability and allowing for easier navigation of this sacred text. This thoughtful design makes it ideal for study, prayer, or reflective reading, whether you're a seasoned scholar or encountering the Torah for the first time.

Reviews for Torah in English complete: Including: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy

Nate Isaac 5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Words, Same Sacred MeaningReviewed in the United States on April 7, 2025 Verified Purchase Of all the English Torah translations I've come across, this one struck a rare balance between clarity and reverence that genuinely stood out. It keeps the essence of the original text while updating the language just enough to make it easier on the modern reader. Words like ""thou"" and ""doth"" have been replaced, but the meaning and tone still feel reverent and true to tradition. The two-column layout is a nice touch... it makes flipping through easier, especially when you're trying to find something specific. I also appreciated how clean the formatting is on Kindle, which isn't always the case with digital editions of sacred texts. If I had one small suggestion, it's that a little bit of added context, like short intros or notes for certain chapters, could have helped with the denser parts. Some sections, especially in Leviticus or Numbers, might leave newer readers with questions. That said, it's still a beautifully done edition. This would be a great version for someone just getting started, or even for folks who want to revisit the Torah in a format that flows a bit smoother. It's simple, but not simplified. A respectful update that honors the depth of the original. John 5.0 out of 5 stars A great Torah for beginners and believers alikeReviewed in the United States on February 3, 2025 Verified Purchase I was looking for a Torah translation that was close to the ancient Hebrew texts but not too difficult to read, and a friend of mine recommended the JPS version. Although you may notice its age at times, the modernized vocabulary really does a great job of maintaining the balance between readability and keeping the sacred charm of the original scriptures. The table of contents and layout make it easy to find specific verses quickly (so great for studying), and I absolutly adore the white-gold cover design. In short: Would recommended! Eetu1234 5.0 out of 5 stars Good editionReviewed in the United States on April 6, 2025 Verified Purchase This edition of the Torah was very well done. The updated language made it much easier to read without losing the depth and reverence of the original text. Definitely a good edition to get
