"Theresa Vandermeer was born in Asheville, North Carolina on June 11, 1971. She is a burn survivor who cherishes her gift of life after having been numerously resuscitated from a malicious house fire that not only visibly scarred her over 65% of her body but almost took her life. In her book, ""Through the Fire"" Theresa tells the shocking yet candid story of how she overcame the fire as well as other traumatic events throughout her life. In her inspiring autobiography she shares how these experiences not only tested her faith in God but also strengthened her and helped mold her into the strong Christian woman that she is. Today, Theresa is married and has three beautiful children, a degree in Psychology and is an aspiring photographer who has had her fine art prints placed in hospitals worldwide. Her life story truly is an extraordinary testimony of how God can take the most horrendous things in one's life and use them for His glory."
"A simple Google search will reveal thousands of inspirational stories about how someone has overcome the odds to live a better life. Books like that are easy to come by. However, it is very rare to find one that is as beautifully constructed, powerfully moving and well-crafted as Ms. Vandermeer's story. Ms. Vandermeer's writing brings the reader right beside her throughout her life. We are there with her when she is in the ambulance. We are there with her when she meets her best friend. We are there with her when she struggles to free herself from an abusive relationship. Her story shines through with a type of genuine vulnerability rarely seen in other inspirational books. By doing so, she challenges the reader to go to the place where only Jesus can sustain them. Her faith shines through the book without being heavy-handed or ""preachy."" However, I do not think you have to be of the Christian faith --or of any faith-- to be inspired by this book. There is no doubt that this book was written sincerely from the heart---something that, in my opinion, is missing from far too many books today. I am a very slow reader. It usually takes me several months to get through a single book. I finished this one in three days. It was so incredibly riveting, genuine and real. The writing flows smoothly and naturally. The story itself is incredible. Throughout the entire book, Ms. Vandermeer never asks for pity, never writes seeking sympathy, but instead wants us to discover the courage within ourselves, a courage only made possible through faith brought ""through the fire."" It amazes me that someone who has had so much taken away is only interested in how she can give hope to others through her faith and perseverance in Christ. No matter your life experience, no matter who you are, or where you are from, this book is a rare jewel. It's a book that not only inspires you, it's one that also transforms you. Highly recommended. Dawn This is an incredibly inspiring book!!! I would recommend it to anyone, especially those who have, or know someone who have major obstacles to overcome, regardless of the area in life. It caused me to examine my own life's perspective and to appreciate the simple and great blessings we all take for granted. The book offers great detail of the tragic account, but the overall theme is one of great hope. Also, it's an enjoyable read... no long drawn out chapters. There are well placed photos that really accentuate the reading. The book kept my attention from start to finish and that's a rarity for me. Hats off to the author, Theresa Anne Vandermeer, and thank you for writing a book that has inspired me, and will inspire many others. Shawn This new expanded version is a MUST read! The first version was excellent but this expanded version goes even deeper into Theresa's life experiences. It answers questions I had and gives a deeper view of her relationships. This is a story of hurt and tragedy but of strength, courage, love and faith. It is a story of how relationships affect our lives. You won't want to put it down until you have read the whole story!! Kris I got the book today and literally could not put it down. Theresa has been through so much in her life and she beautifully illustrates her adversity and feelings in this book. It is gut wrenching, hopeful and ultimately inspiring. Truly would love to see this made into a movie! Heidi This book has confirmed my belief in the indomitable human spirit. This well told story offers hope for all who believe that Love will overcome. Neil"
