Energy management is one of the keys to economic growth in a country, but today, the world is suffering from its scarcity and excessive use. There are several types of energy (fossil fuels, solar, gas, nuclear, etc.) that are used by rich countries, but poor countries such as Madagascar tend to opt for wood energy. Charcoal production is an activity directly linked to the socio-economic and environmental life of the Malagasy people, particularly those in the urban commune of Antsohihy. It provides income for the inhabitants and feeds the commune's coffers. The negative externalities resulting from illegal exploitation and the ever-increasing demand have led to a rise in the price of charcoal and massive deforestation in Antsohihy. That is why we have recommended combating informal exploitation, training charcoal producers, reforestation, the use of improved kilns, the creation of artificial forests, and the promotion of natural resources.
