This is the first detailed study of the origins of the standing Saxon army. Created by elector John George III (r. 1680-1691), it quickly won its laurels in the battle of Vienna (1683) and later in campaigns against the Ottomans and the French. This book gives a broad analysis on this army, dealing with topics like finances and organisation, uniforms, tactics and an overview of its campaigns.

Reviews for The Saxon Mars and His Force: The Saxon Army During the Reign of John George III 1680 – 1691

''For a relatively short book about a relatively small army, Querengasser manages to squeeze in a remarkable amount of information. And he does so in an engaging manner, particularly when narrating the various campaigns. A series of excellent colour plates and a plethora of useful monochrome illustrations accompanies his text. All in all, this is a first-rate addition to Helion's Century of the Soldier series. Highly recommended. 9/10''-- Wargames Illustrated
