Elijah Byrd Deyton (MDiv, Boston University School of Theology) is an American lay philosophical theologian and poet hailing from Southern Appalachia. His research and writing have focused on the ""theological turn"" in French Phenomenology, Personalism, Open and Process Relational Theologies, and Catholic Spirituality, with special attention given to the interchange between philosophy, spirituality, and poetry.
""I first encountered Eli Deyton's poetry when he took a course I was teaching on spiritual autobiography. His poems flowed, full of piercing intelligence, longing, and faith. Poetry seemed the form of writing most capable of witness to a God who surpasses all language. His words do indeed witness, pointing to a Life that pulses in the midst of the everyday, calling us to notice and turn."" --From the foreword by Claire E. Wolfteich
