The Promise of America
For millions, America is more than just a country-it is a promise. A promise of freedom, opportunity, and the pursuit of a better life. In The Promise of America, William Sanchez weaves together a deeply personal and historically rich narrative, chronicling his family's journey from Cuba to the United States, the challenges of immigration, and his lifelong fight for justice.

Born in Spanish Harlem to Cuban exiles, Sanchez grew up witnessing both the beauty and flaws of the American Dream. From his work as an immigration attorney to his run for the U.S. Senate, his story is one of resilience, activism, and hope. He takes readers through the defining moments of his life-his parents' escape from Communism, his legal battles on behalf of refugees, and his political awakening following the January 6th insurrection.

With a powerful blend of history, personal experience, and political insight, The Promise of America is a must-read for those who believe in the ideals of democracy and justice. It is a call to action, a testament to the power of perseverance, and a reminder that America's greatest strength lies in its diversity and unwavering pursuit of freedom.

William Jose Sanchez (born 1961) is an American lawyer who served as the special counsel for the Office of Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices in the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice from 2004 to 2007. Sanchez was born in Manhattan, New York in 1961. Sanchez is Cuban American; his parents fled Cuba during the Cuban Revolution, and his uncle was later executed by the Cuban military. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1982, and received a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 1986. Private career - After graduating from Georgetown University Law Center, Sanchez worked as an immigration attorney in Florida, working primarily with migrant workers and refugees from Haiti and Cuba, and regularly taking cases to federal courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Sanchez was also an attorney for the Haitian Refugee Center, and taught international law at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. Government career - Sanchez, a Republican and fierce anti-communist, was nominated by President George W. Bush to be the Special Counsel for the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices. Sanchez was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on December 4, 2004. Sanchez left the office in 2007. Post-government career - Sanchez was an opponent of the 2010 Arizona SB 1070, a controversial immigration bill passed in Arizona. He helped create the CONLAMIC LEGAL DEFENSE FUND, which has led numerous federal court battles for over 15 years against anti-immigrant city and state legislation. In the 2016 United States Presidential election, Sanchez was among a number of prominent Bush administration officials who endorsed Hillary Clinton. In the wake of the election, Sanchez switched to the Democratic Party. During the 2021 Cuban protests, Sanchez worked alongside several human rights organizations, working to connect Cuban exiles with relatives in Cuba. He also filed numerous independant legal actions on behalf of Cuban dissidents against the Republic of Cuba at the Organization of American States (""OAS""). In 2021, Sanchez also worked on the legal team for the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (""DRC"") regarding legal arbitration against the government from Dig Oil, an oil exploration company. Sanchez was able to show that DRC had been the victim of corruption in the arbitration matter and no DRC assets were affected in the USA. Sanchez's aunt and uncle were killed in the Surfside condominium collapse. In 2022, Sanchez filed a case on behalf of Florida taxpayers against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who signed the bill to abolish the Reedy Creek Improvement District. It was part of Governor Desantis' anti-gay policies. The case was filed in Miami State Court and both parties agreed to a voluntary dismissal in 2024. The settlement saved Orlando homeowners from paying over $2 billion in property taxes. Sanchez was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2022 United States Senate election in Florida, coming in third place. He received over 80,000 votes. Thru the family law practice, William J. Sanchez, PA (""WJSPA'), he continues to advocate and lead national federal litigiation against the Trump administration's (2025) anti-immigrant policies and executive orders. The bank continues to serve over 25,000 urban poor families in Naga Philippines with micro-loans for self-sufficiency. It was patterned 100% after the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. The Grameen bank and its founder, Dr. Muhammed Yunus were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Booktrib.com ""This attempt to make harmful behavior ""the new normal"" was the impetus for Sanchez to run for political office, he claims. Citing the fact that his U.S. Senate Florida Democratic primary run tallied more votes ""than any other newcomer to politics,"" one understands why Sanchez decided to put his principles and values into book form. Will Sanchez throw his hat into the political ring again? Time will tell, but The Promise of America lays out an inspiring case for this new voice in American politics.""
