If you've ever wondered how public discourse is shaped-or why certain voices dominate the conversation-The Only Authentic Book of Persuasion: The Agenda-Spin Model by Dr. Richard E. Vatz is a must-read revelation. As one of the most accomplished professors of Rhetoric and Communication in the country, Dr. Vatz brings nearly five decades of award-winning teaching at Towson University into this powerful and illuminating work. His groundbreaking ideas have not only influenced thousands of students and scholars but also earned him prestigious honors like the President's Award for Distinguished Service and multiple teaching awards.

This 8th edition is more than a textbook-it's a persuasive manifesto that redefines how we understand influence. In this bold work, Dr. Vatz dismantles traditional theories of persuasion that see rhetorical meaning as dictated by events. Instead, he introduces his original and field-defining Agenda-Spin Model, where persuaders actively choose what issues to elevate and how to frame them for their audiences. Whether he's analyzing media bias, political campaigns, or public perception, Vatz shows how persuasion is less about reacting to the world and more about shaping it.

From presidents to professors, pundits to publishers, The Only Authentic Book of Persuasion offers essential insights for anyone interested in the real mechanics behind influence and communication. It's provocative, sharp, and deeply relevant for today's polarized world.

Bookwrights House is proud to bring you this seminal work, available now at leading online retailers nationwide. We believe Dr. Vatz's enduring contributions deserve a place on every bookshelf. Don't miss your chance to read the book that redefined the conversation about persuasion-for good.

Dr. Richard Vatz is a tenured full professor of Rhetoric and Communication at Towson University wherein he has served for almost 50 years. He won Towson University's ""President's Award for Distinguished Service,"" the university's highest honor, in 2004. In the 2009-2010 year he won the Towson Student Government Association Faculty Member of the Year award and was the first Towson professor to win that award. He won the 2002 ""Teacher of the Year Award"" from the Student Government of Towson, and he has won 4 campus Outstanding Teaching Awards, the most of any faculty member. Vatz is the sponsor of two major awards: 1. The ""Richard E. Vatz Agenda-Spin Persuasion Award,"" beginning as of fall, 2018, supports writing and/or media work and pedagogy focused on the rhetor-as-creative-agent, and work focusing on rhetor's responsibility in a persuasion model. This significant award of $2,000, disbursed annually, is to be based on the rhetorical perspective argued in Vatz's ""The Myth of the Rhetorical Situation"" and The Only Authentic Book of Persuasion: The Agenda-Spin Model (BOOKWRIGHTS HOUSE, 2022), and 2.""The Richard E. Vatz Best Debater Award Endowment,"" a $2000/year Towson University Award since approximately 2014. He is a Faculty Fellow at the Eastern Communication Association and has been honored by the National Communication Association through his 2012 acceptance in the ""Teachers on Teaching"" Seminar as well as a separate seminar on his writings. He has a new edition of his book The Only Authentic Book of Persuasion: the Agenda-Spin Model (BOOKWRIGHTS HOUSE), and he is co-editor of Thomas Szasz: The Man and His Ideas (Transaction Books: 2017), as well as other books and hundreds of articles and op-eds and other writings. He has spoken at Hillsdale College and the University of Richmond and a lengthy list of other schools and businesses.
