Jett Morton is an avid typewriter collector and historian. His passion began at a yard sale around the young age of seven. He stumbled upon a machine with a keyboard, reminiscent of a modern computer, except this keyboard had no accompanying monitor. This marvel of engineering was of course a typewriter, and that typewriter went home with him that day. In due time, more typewriters, most late 20th-century models, were acquired. Over the years, as Jett's typewriter collection grew, so did his involvement with the typewriter community. It wasn't until he walked past an antique store in his home state of West Virginia that an unusual typewriter displayed in the window caught Jett's eye-an Oliver No. 9. After amassing hundreds of typewriters manufactured by dozens of long-gone typewriter brands, Jett began refining his collection to specialize in one specific brand: Oliver. This set him on a path to procuring every model and variation of typewriter manufactured or licensed by the Oliver Typewriter Company. He is well known among the typewriter community for his vast knowledge and research of the company and its founder, Thomas Oliver. Jett is also an electrical engineer, entrepreneur, and rapper. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Lauren, and their cat, Lola.

Reviews for The Oliver Typewriter: The Standard Visible Writer

""In his book The Oliver Typewriter, Jett Morton achieves the amazing feat of reopening this company, closed for nearly a century, turning the lights on, powering up the machinery, and putting its employees back to work. A remarkable accomplishment.""-Anthony Casillo, author of Typewriters: Iconic Machines from the Golden Age of Mechanical Writing""From an Iowa minister's ""eureka"" moment to global success, the unique Oliver is a highlight of typewriter history. With rare photos, diagrams, and data, Jett Morton lovingly reveals the people, the inventions, the factories, and the organization that created this phenomenon. This comprehensive book is a must-have for any owner of any Oliver.""-Richard Polt, author of The Typewriter Revolution: A Typist's Companion for the 21st Century""The Oliver Typewriter is a must-have for those interested in the history of the machine, the company, and the creation, manufacturing, and marketing of American technologies.""-Peter Weil, co-author of Typewriter: A Celebration of the Ultimate Writing Machine""This book is a detailed and comprehensive tour of the Oliver typewriter, its models, accessories and, importantly, the people involved in creating one of the great classsic typewriters of its age.""-Martin Howard, featured in California Typewriter, curator of The Martin Howard Collection""An astonishing compendium of Oliver information found nowhere else!""-Dr. Martin A. Rice, Jr., Associate Professor of Philosophy at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, curator of The Johnstown Type Writer Conservatory""I have known Jett Morton for his entire life. I am very sure that nobody knows about the Oliver typewriter, its history, and its variations more than he does. This book should be the 'go-to guide' for generations.""-Herman Price, curator of The Chestnut Ridge Typewriter Museum
