The Field is a narrative of poetry and prose that marks the trajectory of a ten-acre field across ninety years of my family history as it evolved through multiple stages from a horse ranch into a manicured suburb of 20 luxury homes.

I grew up in a time of freedom and boundless play where I could run wild with my neighborhood friends and watch my horse whispering Grampa set the stage for the love of family, animals, and every inch of the land. I share, amongst others, stories about my Nana and mother, wise women with old world sensibilities and a little magic that deeply influenced my children and me, as well as the rest of our family and friends.

Though The Field moves through many enchanting and lyrical moments, I also share some of the most tragic losses in my life, including my father who died at 50 from a malignant brain tumor.

This poetic memoir tells a greater story of the culture at large as the changing times have forced us to participate in a new way of life. This recent fracture in our reality has torn us from a profound connection with nature and obscured the universal experience of beauty and love with the inevitable passing of time and our tenuous hold upon it. Sadly, my brothers and I succumbed to the pressures and sold the last fraction of the field in 2025.
