His research investigates how urban design and planning shape uneven vulnerability and adaptation to climate change. Lawrence J. Vale is Associate Dean and Ford Professor of Urban Design and Planning in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is best known for Architecture, Power, and National Identity and the coedited volume The Resilient City.
