Tim McDermott is a college and youth lacrosse coach as well as a striving practitioner of the lesson he shares in this book. Coach McDermott began developing these strategies to make his own Dojo Decision and develop his Black Belt Mentality as an All-American athlete at DIII Geneseo State, where he graduated early to accelerate his academic and athletic pursuits, finishing his college career and receiving his MBA at Loyola University.Post college, he briefly played in Major League Lacrosse (MLL), before beginning his coaching career at the University of Virginia. Fueled by his passion for personal development, he took a brief hiatus from college coaching to explore his interest in peak performance, venturing into the realm of sports performance entrepreneurship while working for a sports psychology assessment company. At this time, he completed the inaugural Heroic Coaching program and became a certified Heroic Optimal Living Coach. This eventually led him back into coaching the University of Utah MCLA club lacrosse program. There he served as the director of operations and an assistant coach, helping transition the team to the Division 1 ranks, which culminated in their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2023. Alongside building a Division 1 lacrosse program, Tim was instrumental in establishing a youth club program in Salt Lake City.Presently, Tim coaches and leads his youth club's personal development program. His influence extends far beyond the playing field, collaborating with individuals, schools, and local businesses to help them unlock the full potential of their teams. Now residing in Virginia Beach, Tracy dedicates her time to mentoring young athletes.During her time as a student-athlete at UNC, Tracy made her mark as one of the best draw control specialists in program history. She set school records for most draw controls in a career (327), in a single season (145), and in an individual game (14). Tracy played a key role in leading the Tar Heels to two national championships, scoring the game-winning goal in sudden-death triple overtime as a freshman to secure UNC's first title in 2013. After recovering from an injury that sidelined her for the 2014 season, she returned to the field in 2015 and put up 38 goals, five assists, and 44 draw controls.Through her work with youth programs and clinics, she continues to inspire and guide the next generation of lacrosse players.
The pressure and focus for today's young athletes who aspire to compete at the collegiate level is complicated and difficult. The current competitive culture and social media influence is more about result driven outcomes than the actual journey of growth, joy, self-awareness and exploration. This book helps the modern-day athlete move away from fear-based results, frustration, self-doubt and pressure that holds them back from reaching their fullest potential. Instead providing a great road map for any athlete who wants to develop pillars of excellence and self-mastery. It is in these lessons that an athlete can realize their full potential. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking the next level in all you do.
