James Leo Garrett Jr. had a long, impactful, and prestigious career as a theologian and theological educator at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Baylor University, and, for most of his career, at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, until his passing in early 2020. He authored a major two-volume work, Systematic Theology: Biblical, Historical, and Evangelical (Wipf & Stock), the monumental Baptist Theology: A Four-Century Study, and numerous other books and articles.
"""Wyman Richardson has bestowed a great treasure both to the academy and to the churches in volume 8, The Christian Life, of The Collected Writings of James Leo Garrett. Garrett's essays, addresses, and articles on the priesthood of all believers; evangelism and missions; and worship, prayer, and stewardship are just as applicable today as they were when he wrote them--and perhaps even more."" --Matt Queen, professor and chair of evangelism, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary ""The biblical and historical scope of Leo Garrett's research make this a wonderful read for the scholarly minister, perhaps even a 'must' read. Garrett does more than merely point the reader to important theological concepts such as the priesthood of all believers, the relationship of evangelism to global missions and social responsibilities, worship, and prayer; he attempts to apply these insights to his own life and asks us to reconsider this practical theology to our own lives."" --Doug Dickens, professor of pastoral care and counseling, Gardner-Webb University ""In this concluding volume by leading theologian James Leo Garrett Jr., editor Wyman Richardson provides a comprehensive collection of primary sources related to the Christian life. Meticulously researched, these chapters deliver crucial theological understanding beneficial to the faith community. Baptists, in particular, are indebted to both Garrett and Richardson for this exceptional series."" --Jill Botticelli Cabal, director of libraries and archivist, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"
