The Cockspur Island Lighthouse - A Witness to History is the story of ""the little lighthouse that could"" - a diminutive but resilient beacon that has stood the test of time despite countless storms and hurricanes, epic battles, vandalism, erosion, rising tides, and deferred maintenance.
Generations of Georgians have crossed the Lazaretto Creek Bridge enroute to Tybee Island and have taken comfort in seeing this familiar landmark, knowing that they have arrived. Of the dozen or so channel beacons that once lined the banks of the Savannah River, only the Cockspur Island Lighthouse remains.
Written in association with the Friends of Cockspur Island Lighthouse (FOCIL), this book also chronicles their efforts to help save this important lighthouse for future generations.
