Reviewed by Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite The Children of Slowville Book 2 by Madly Chatterjee is a bilingual book with two delightful stories, A Little Surprise and The Boat Ride with the beautiful city of Slowville as the backdrop. In the first story, Kimaya, Ben, Sanjee, Savya, Oliver, Mei, and Toby the dog are in Slowville Park, playing with their kites. They were planning to spend the afternoon there and have a picnic. The children sat down to eat the picnic they had brought. They heard a crying noise coming from a field where they could see sheep. They decided to have a look and saw a sheep struggling to breathe. They decided to take it in a boat to the city since the river was nearby. They stopped one of the boats. Would they reach the city in time to save the sheep? In the second story, The Boat Ride, the children are excited to go on a boat ride with their dad. They were going to sail along the river, up to the forest. They went deeper into the forest and the children were thrilled. They stopped near a little cove and it looked like a perfect place for a nice swim. Sanjee had other plans while the rest of the kids were in the water. She picked up some beautiful flowers for her mother and she saw a baby boar drinking water at the river. She picked up the baby boar and decided to be its mommy. What happened when the mamma boar came? Both stories teach children kindness, compassion, love, empathy, and how to be in tandem with nature. The illustrations make these stories tangible to young readers and it is a good way to teach children both English and French, apart from teaching them life lessons and good values. It is a charming book for all animal and nature lovers and the three coloring pages at the end of the story make it fun and interactive for children. It is a good storybook for parents and tutors to use for storytelling sessions to teach children about problem-solving and types of transportation in an interesting way.
