Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that causes the death of neurons in the brain. These neurons produce a chemical called dopamine, which helps to control muscle movement. One way to define Parkinson's disease is to think of it as a conductor's challenge. A conductor must coordinate multiple different instruments to create a single, smooth piece of music. The brain of a person with Parkinson's disease, like a conductor, controls a network of neurons responsible for moving muscles. When these neurons degenerate, coordination and tremors in muscle movement occur.

Symptoms of Parkinson's Disease

The symptoms of Parkinson's disease typically begin after the age of 50, but they can occur in younger people as well. Symptoms typically progress slowly over time.

- Tremors: Shaking of the hands, arms, face, or trunk.
